All four of these employ the “swing” (uneven) eight note patterns, and each moves a bit faster than the one that preceded it. The tempo marks are approximate, and a good swing feeling is more important than attempting to stay up to a speed that might sound frantic. $25 should be legato and relaxed, rather in the style of a smooth saxophone section. The lead is passed from one voice to another, and the background to the fourth horn solo at letter D should have a pizzicato feeling. ##26 is also meant to be fairly smooth for the first chorus, then it should cut loose a bit from letter E though the fourth bar of H and calm back down for the ending. #27 is the most robust of the four, outdoorsy, bur not heavy. The moving notes are important in maintaining the rhythmic drive, and the longer notes need to be played accordingly. #28 moves right along, and must be played lightly. There is a choice of solos offered in each of the parts after letter E and they may be used in any combination, or you may feel free to supply your own.
