Performance Notes
Here yet awhile is the final chorus from the St. Matthew passion, originally scored for double chorus and double orchestra. Considering this, the choice to arrange it for two groups of four horns seems an obvious one. Indeed the whole movement is divided between the two sections, alternating in taking the lead, and finishing in a big finale.
The original key was transposed a fourth down, in order to obtain the most convenient key signature and range for the horn octet. The harmonies are all there, and the division between choruses works well, so for a bit of Bach passion magic, this is the arrangement to go for.
