Performance Notes
This is another early 20th-century Carl Fischer publication, the Largo from the opera Xerxes by Handel. The arrangement starts after the introduction, when the strings take over the theme (listen to a recording here).
There are some differences: the repeated note accompaniment figure is more often than not omitted and replaced by long notes, and the key is not the original G major, but B flat major (F major in horn pitch). A very effective addition to any concert program when played with expression and in tune, this arrangement is one of the better ones from its time.
