Composed for "Take 9" CD which was a collaboration of the AHQ and the horns of the NY Philharmonic. It is antiphonal- 4 horns against 5 horns- and is brilliant, heroic adrenaline rush.
Performance Notes
As explained above, Take 9 is an antiphonal fanfare (two choirs playing against each other), composed for the AHQ (4) and the Horns of the NY Philharmonic (5). The parts are divided accordingly, with 1-4 making up the first choir, and 5-9 the second one. The parts are distributed high to low in ascending numerical order (1-2-3-4, and 5-6-7-8-9).
A sample will give a better impression of what this work sounds like. It is a great opener (either for a concert or a CD, as proven by the Take 9 recording), and showcases the horn like few other fanfares do.
