Performance Notes
Time for five is a collection of five pieces for five horns in five different styles. The first piece "jive" is to be played "with a swing", and that should tell it all. The Nordic melody is a setting of a tune in G major, with much harmonic work and at times a busy first part. The third movement, Moto perpetuo contains, as the name implies, a continuous quaver (eighth note) line, divided between horn 2, 3 and 4, while the 1st part keeps repeating the theme (with an little break when the 3rd horn takes over when on break from the "moto perpetuo"). Chilling out is a slow waltz, again with the theme in horns 1 and 3, and.. chilling parts in the other horns. The final piece, Steam train blues, is a continuous crotchet-quaver (quarter-eighth note) 12/8, with a "bluesy" tine that moves between the parts.
Recommended for every quintet.
