Performance Notes
Fanfare and theme consists of two sections (as the title implies) and a coda. The fanfare is built on the open fifth (and its inversion, the open fourth), while the legato section that follows (the 2nd theme) is based on seconds (the interval). Semiquaver (sixteenth notes) passages lead back into the fanfare, which at this point is orchestrated differently.
The theme (the andante section) is carried in the first horn, while the other three play various accompaniment figures, ranging from continuous quavers (eight notes) to a countermelody to simple chords. Like the fanfare, the theme section is repeated (more than once) with different accompaniment figures underneath.
The very fast coda introduces a now motif that, after 6 bars, leads into a final rhythmic variation of an A major (horn pitch) chord. This is an interesting piece with some technical challenges, well worth giving a try if it can be found.
